Great Plains: America's Lingering Wild eNot a middle grade kid I think my 12 and 13 year old grand kids would love this book Even kids younger than that but like I said I wouldven like it Suspense mixed with mystery and humor I would love to thank Lisa Schmid North Star Editions and NetGalley for this book in xchange for an honest reviewSuch a great middle grade It hooked me right from the start The reason why I gave it 3 stars though is because at some point the characters went flat and cliche But still the story was amazingIt follows a boy named Ollie and he just moved to a new home with his little sister and their mother There Ollie meets a ghost Teddy and together they go on searching a treasure that was actually burried by Teddy s father years ago I kind of anticipated the Teddy s father years ago I kind of anticipated the and I was right but the story was still good and the characters were jokers and funnyIf you like detectivesleuth stories and also middle grade books go for this book It came out in June so you can asily find itHappy Reading This is the perfect middle grade fun ghost story Ollie s story is one that I know kids will really njoy figuring out what happens I had so much fun reading this story I can see myself using it in the classroom as how to grow an imaginative story Ollie and his funky little family are on the move Again Places change but the nerve racking new kid nuances do not He understands the reason he just loathes the result Mom makes the money to support the trio She loves her job and is uite good at it but traipsing across the continent for theater doesn t xactly Forgetful of Their Sex: Female Sanctity and Society, ca. 500-1100 enthuse Ollie The fact thatach move sends his little sister over the moon with plans and possibilities Is Also Not HelpfulAt A also not helpfulAt a the females in the family seem to share joyful overtly dramatic tendencies while Ollie is a contrarian in an almost obligatory kind of way defiantly declaring that he is basic I respectfully disagree as I find him to be a bit of a drama king just in a passive aggressive poor poor me kind of way Which is not to say that Ollie is unlikable only a bit cynical and churlishThis time he is told would be different Mom grew up in this small California "town and the opportunity to revive the old theater feels like a dream come true But "and the opportunity to revive the old theater feels like a dream come true But to the old gold rush town pulling up to the pink house does not induce a sunny disposition for Ollie Nor did he feel hopeful after the first day of school However this odd ball Teddy with his tales of buried treasures seems interesting When rumors of money problems that may adversely impact the theater thus the family s income reach Ollie s ars he is surprised by his own reaction He wants to stay put Forcing himself to overlook uestionable uirks Ollie teams up with Teddy fixated on finding the gold that Teddy watched his father bury so many years ago I njoyed the uniue friendship formed between Ollie and Teddy Ms Schmid subtly shows how a good friend can make you a better person as she simultaneously keeps the reader wholly Runaway Wedding engaged in the boyspic adventureThis review was written by jv poore for Buried Under Books with huge thanks to North Star Editions for the Advance Review Copy Another new town A new school. Th a boy named Teddy To Ollie's surprise though his first friend in town is a little uniue than those he's made in the past Teddy is a ghost Befriending someone who lived during the famous California Gold Rush sure does make things interesting fo. At first I was going to give this book 45 stars but know that I sit down to write my review I realise I don t have anything negative to say about it The biggest reason why I loved this book so much were the lovable characters My favorite is without a single doubt teddy just is without a single doubt Teddy just cutest and most adorable little boy I ve read about most of the time I just wanted to hug him Wicked Loving Lies even though I knew it wouldn t have been posible since he s a ghost lol Then we have our other main character Ollie who in my opinion was spoiled and a bit impolite a lot of times and I couldn t love him throughout the story like I did with Teddy but he had his nice times Lastly there s Ollie s little sister DeeDee who wasven cuter and funnier than Teddy but unfortunately we didn t get to see much of herOllie Oxley and the Ghost is a super uick to read it literaly only took me a day to finish it a Author Lisa Schmid has penned an La heredera del mar enjoyable if predictable middle grade novel with Ollie Oxley and the Ghost The Search for Lost Gold the first of what s clearly meant to be a series The titular Ollie Oxley once again finds himself as the new kid when his peripatetic mother relocates to Granite City Calif It won t be spoiler to say that hencounters a ghost an ternally 12 or 13 year boy named Teddy who died in the mid 19th century when Granite City was a Gold Rush town Nor will it come as a surprise that Teddy s father left a stash of gold somewhere and that the spectral Teddy helps Ollie find the missing treasure overcome a girl bully named Aubrey Kelly and save Ollie s mom s workplace The Bingham Theatre from foreclosure Still there s plenty of humor and middle school situations to appeal to the youngsters although adults will probably check out some time in Chapter 7 when they see the nd comingIn the interest of full disclosure I received this book from NetGalley North Star Editions and Jolly Fish in xchange for an honest review This was a ghost story but not a scary story Teddy is a friendly ghost but of his new friends since Ollie has to move a lot only he can see the ghost which makes it look as though he is talking to himselfThe reason he has to move a lot is his mother is in the theatre and this town her old home town is hopefully the last "StopBut Of Course To "of course to a story there has to be something that is about to go wrong and in this case the theatre is about to close because the mortgage can t be paidSo Oliie and Teddy start hunting for the treasure that Teddy s father buried before he diedThis was an ok mystery The problem in I guessed the solution too far in advance and so had to read the rest of the book about bullies and mystics and "STUFF TO GET TO THE ENDING "to get to the nding see if I was rightBut for a middle grade reader the clues might not be so obvious and they would probably njoy the s search for the missing goldThanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review Ollie Oxley and the Ghost The Search for Lost Gold by Lisa Schmid is a book I reuested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary This is a delightful middle school book with great characters dialogue plot and mystery I njoyed it and I am.
