Ibera and Ferdinand amusingMs Bellows packs lots of adventure into 127 pages often I felt at the xpense of character development We knew little about Alexander at the R High Performance Programming end of the book than we did at the beginning We see him as a lonely young boy who wants to gain the respect of a largely absentee andmotionally distant father We know that he dreams about his mother and wants to know about her We know that he is a clumsy social outcast We know that the villain who is trying to capture him is named Imperius and we know that he has a henchman named Roman We have no idea what Imperius wants ven though one of the other characters describes him as an lement of unspeakable Scala for Java Developers evil that is the manifestation ofveryone s nightmares We do know that Roman wants to conuer King Paraclete but we don t know why One problem I had with the book was the language It seemed inconsistent The language went from very formal to very informal sometimes in the same sentence see my favorite uote I am still trying to figure out what a few sentences meant This one was one of the most baffling A few hours burned away at the vening And some of the conversations seemed sort of random with the response to a uestion not in alignment with what the uestion was I think that a middle grader with a pretty good vocabulary could njoy the adventure in this storyFavorite uoteMundi s shoulders drooped The long hours of the Vermeer to Eternity evening chiseled away at the strength and character hexuded Heaven to Betsy earlier Okay kid you win It s obvious I can t change your mind he said shaking his head in defeat Alexander Drake has an interesting life to say the least He lives in a giant house with a father who s never around He spends a lot of time with his grandparents as his mother passed away All that s about to change While staying in his Dad s old room he finds some strange things that soon lead him into anven stranger world Talking frogs and dirt pips are the least of his worries Something is out to get him something bad Alexander is determined to make it to Verhonia and get some answers though He just has to live long So B. It enough to do itAlexander Drake was a fun kid You really felt bad for him as he longed to be closer to his father but he never got it Alexander certainly has a taste for adventure though It s no surprise that Alexander has close ties to this new world he s found much closer than he could havever imagined I liked Ferdinand and felt he was a great sidekick He s someone I d like to have around if I was wandering in a strange new world I did feel a little dropped into the story and it seemed a bit skippy at first It all smoothed out though and this made it much Cabaret enjoyable for me The dirt pips were a fantastic set of creatures too and I wanted to learn about them Overall this is a book that i think a lot of kids and adults cannjoy It s a fast read and it s written in a way that I think will keep kids interested and ready to read I know I certainly amBook provided for review What a fabulous story This book is perfect for that inbetween age Ages 8 and up is where I d place the story It does "have some larger words in it that may confuse an 8 year old but with mom s help it can "some larger words in it that may confuse an 8 year old but with mom s help it can be read by someone in that age The book is very short for a Novel only about 120 pages The main character Alexander is a young boy who doesn t really have any friends He nters into a world full of magic His first ncounter is with a talking frog or a Hopper The world is very creative and fun to read It is an adventure which will keep any young boy reading along My son is loving this book right now and he is 10 He will write "His Own Review Of The Book When "own review of the book when finishesThis is the perfect book for those young boys who don t like to read long books It nds in such a way that will keep your young one wanting and they will be begging for book 2DetailsDisclaimer Review copy was provided to me in xchange for a fair and honest review The free book held no determination on my personal review. This book is such a hoot The characters are delightful and the last paragraph or two gave me goosebumps I can t wait until part 2I m totally going to read this to my kids once they re old nough it s rated 8 years and up but I m sure a 6 or 7 year old might like it too First I must start by saying that I loved this story However I m not sure whether this is a small book that wants to be a middle grade novel or a middle grade novel that wants to be a chapter book Due to length As a PDF it is 127 pages but as an The Bookshop on the Shore e book it s 72 pages this is really of a small book than a middle grade novel but the content seems novel worthy It felt like the first uarter of a novel or the first third if Elizabeth Parkinson Bellows fleshed things out a bit I love that Alexander s guide through Azra s Pith is a frog or a hopper as they re called in the magical realm The banter between them is uite charming Azra s Pith is a fascinating place as are it s inhabitants But I found myself wanting to know aboutverything I want to know about Alexander s father and their relationship I know I m the first one to complain when there is too much to the plot xposition but here I found myself craving it I want to know about the villains I want to know about Alexander s family I felt like things were just starting to unfold when they came to a complete haltI think it s a credit to Ms Bellows that in so few words she captured my attention Though I was slightly irritated by that fact that the characters would slip in and out of formal speech patterns sometimes within the same breath I would like to know the rest of the story she leaves Alexander in a highly precarious place Is this something worth checking out Yes But I might wait until The Return of General Drake is available Alexander believes that he is going to his grandmother s house while his father is away Little does he know that he is about to mbark upon a grand adventureHe is curious to know about the mother who died shortly after he is born and decides that while he is at his grandmothers he has the perfect opportunity to look for answers He steps out the door The Art of Memoir early one morning and goes out toxplore the forest There he finds a doorway into another realmAlexander meets many uniue friends His first friend is a hopper what we would commonly call a frog He has vil creatures pursuing him to stop him on his uest They work "for the vil ImperiusI found this tale to be full of adventure and it would appeal to it s target audience "the vil ImperiusI found this tale to be full of adventure and it would appeal to it s target audience middle grade reader There is not much character development but honestly most 10 year olds are not interested in character development just the actionThis would be a great book to read to younger readers There are many opportunities for characterization I read the ARC book so there could be changes in the final copy but I thought it was a pretty good coming of age type story Would appeal to kids 6 10 I d say I thought the main character seemed maybe a little younger than 11Total cliffhanger nding mostly this is setup for the series This book is such a fun and xciting read Alexander Drake is an 11 year old boy who feels that he doesn t uite belong anywhere He feels different from all the other kids and his mind is always PostgreSQL Server Programming - Second Edition elsewhere He is always wondering and dreaming about his mother and gets frustrated that his father never tells him anything He finds out just how different he is when his dad takes him to visit his grandmother Whilexploring the forest around his grandmother s house Alexander meets a talking frog named Ferdinand who takes him across a magical passageway into a world called Azra s Pith This is where Alexander s Integrity Restored: Helping Catholic Families Win the Battle Against Pornography extraordinary and dangerous journey into discovering truths about himself and his family s history startsThe book is veryasy to read and the pace flows The Taste of Night (Signs of the Zodiac, easily and uickly The characters are very likable and have very interesting and uirky personalitiesspecially Ferdinand and Libera one of the talking creatures that Alexander mee. Alexander Drake is a curious young man He lives in a drab oversized mansion with his secretive father and spends his days playing alone Where is his mother And why is his father so tight lipped about the pastBut secrets have a way of getting out And a stay. Ts on his adventure For me the story has a complex to it but the "Author Is Able To Simplify "is to simplify into terms that young readers can follow asily and understand The story focuses on Alexander s journey and the descriptions about Azra s Pith and its inhabitants aren t as visual or detailed as I would have liked but there are nough bits and pieces to help me form a picture of how different and magical Azra s Pith isThe books nds when the first part of Alexander s journey nds but his adventures are definitely not finished and the last part of the book is a cliffhanger and it makes you want to find out what happens nextI think the series would be great for young boys The Road From Home: The Story Of An Armenian Girl especially since the main character is a boy And if you re an adult who likes reading light fantasy and adventure novels sometimes you mightnjoy this book tooI received a review copy of this book at no cost and with no obligations All opinions Exile and Pilgrim expressed here are my ownBlog post here Alexander was a young boy about 10 who longed for nothing than to see and talk with his mother Dad was stand offish probably still hurting himself but really didn t pay much attention to Alex Alex was a klutz knobby kneed English school boy who was alone a lotGoing to stay with his grandmother while Dad went off on another archeologicalxpedition was a highlight Until Alexander realizes that he is off on another sort of adventure That of finding himself He finds that his father was a daydreamer once ven drew kiddish maps of places to xplore After serious consideration Alexander leaves grandmother a note and goes off on his own But not for longIn a true Hannah Montana: The Movie expedition fashion one needs than oneself to get along Alexander meets many creatures on his journey some good some not They assist or hinder as the case may be but Alexander pushes on no matter the issue to be faced Yes he is afraid and yes he is hungry but he has a goal in sight and will not deviate from itA great story for camping A great read to the youngun s story To be honest I m not sure this comes under the YA heading as I feel it might be tooasy for that age group but very child needs to learn to get along and Alexander does so in wonderful fashion Memories of Gulliver s Travels and Narnia bubble up as I njoy this fast action middle grade novel of a lonely young man discovering his heritage An absent mother and a father who seems almost too busy to care leave Alexander Drake feeling awkward and lonely around his peers but now he s going to spend some time at his beloved grandmother s house while Dad travels again There Alexander finds a locked drawer a mysterious key and a map all of which lead the lonely boy through the forest to Azra s Pith There he learns that being different can make one xtraordinary a pleasing state of affairs indeedThe scenery of Azra s Pith is pleasingly vocative and the characters are njoyably imaginative leading to amusing dialog and nicely boy contemplation From talking frogs to threatening birds friend and foe combine to make Alexander s a classic with all the classic temptations to rest and uit But the brave team presses on and the journey s lessons are wiseThe story draws to an njoyable conclusion just as a new tale begins making this a good standalone novel for middle grade readers Cardiovascular Pet: Current Concepts especially those hard to reach boys with the definite promise of Disclosure I received a freecopy of this novel to accompany the author s visit to my blog This middle grade story is filled with interesting and ntertaining characters When Alexander first nters the world of Azra s Pith his first companion is Ferdinand a hopper who is there to assist him on his journey to find his grandfather the king But when Ferdinand is captured by the A Companion to Peter Martyr Vermigli evil murks minions of theven The Best Four Years: How to Survive and Thrive in College (and Life) evil Imperius Alexander is forced to wander alone until hencounters a lowly dirt pip Dirt pips are small cowardly and thieves but Libera does help Alexander rescue Ferdinand I found the bickering between At his grandmother's cottage provides strange clues to his father's past A past Alexander is determined to find out aboutWith a mysterious key and several maps in his pack he sets off on an innocent search for answers about his familyThe discovery of a se. ,
